Cu Chi Tunnels Half Day From Ho Chi Minh

Overview

The Cu Chi Tunnels Half Day tour is an eye-opening look into the ‘underground city’ of the Cu Chi Tunnels. Several feet under the jungles of Cu Chi, Viet Cong soldiers hid and schemed against the Americans and South Vietnamese army. Conditions were unbelievably tough, but the dogged determination of the soldiers was enough to repel the Americans, who suffered many gruesome casualties here at the hands of the Viet Cong and their booby traps.

The Cu Chi Tunnels Half Day tour starts from Ho Chi Minh City. We head to the tunnels via bus and spend the morning exploring one of Vietnam’s premier historical sites, before heading back to Ho Chi Minh City by the mid-afternoon.

Itinerary

Activities: Delving into the Cu Chi Tunnels and learning of its interesting history before having a delectable lunch and returning to Ho Chi Minh City by bus.

Our bus will pick you up at about 08.00am from your hotel before beginning its transit 55km northwest to Cu Chi. Once we arrive, a video will alert you to life in the tunnels and how hard it was for the Viet Cong to survive here. We climb into the tunnels and explore the inner workings of the 200km underground web, discovering where the people lived, ate, bathed, rested and plotted. We will also see some gruesome mantraps, as well as the burnt husk of an American tank and evidence of America’s intense bombing campaign in the large bomb craters that can be seen in the jungle around us.

You will be able to see first-hand the abysmal conditions that the Viet Cong endured for their motherland. The disease was rampant and ants, spiders, centipedes and scorpions once shared the same space, meaning the Viet Cong had to defend against two enemies. The tunnels have since been enlarged by 30% to accommodate Western tourists, but you will still get a feeling for how cramped life was down here, and marvel at the level of determination it would take to resist the enemy for 20 years from underground.
