Mui Ne Beach Holiday

Locate our guide at Tan Son Nhat international airport upon your landing in Ho Chi Minh City. They will transfer you to the centre, where you will be able to check into your hotel (check-in is from 14:00). After this, you have whatever is left of the afternoon as free time.

The old capital of South Vietnam is steeped in history, both ancient and modern. In the district of Cholon (District 6), you can see antique temples of Chinese origin, which influenced Vietnamese culture before the arrival of the French. Thien Hau Temple is an ornate and highly beautiful dedication to the goddess Mazu, the Empress of Heaven, as is the Tam Son Hai Quan Pagoda, a gorgeously vibrant Buddhist building in the heart of Cholon.

For modern history, the War Remnants Museum gives a great account. The museum takes visitors on a journey through the history of the Vietnam War, from its origins up until the Fall of Saigon in 1975. This final event took place nearby, at the Independence Palace, when a North Vietnamese tank rolled through the gates, reuniting the country in one fell swoop.

At 19.00, the guide and driver will collect you from your hotel lobby and take you to a local restaurant, where a welcome dinner awaits. Enjoy one of your first forays into Saigonese cuisine before relaxing in the evening and returning to your hotel.

Rise early for breakfast and await the arrival of our tour guide at 08:00. A two-hour transfer to the Mekong Delta will end in the laidback town of Ben Tre, the coconut tree capital of Vietnam. A motorised rickshaw will take us through the most idyllic of tropical scenery to the house of Mr. Sau Khanh, a local with a large collection of ancient ceramics and pottery from around the Mekong Delta and the wider sphere of Asia. Following a brief exploration of his collection, we will enjoy a fresh coconut from his luxuriant tropical garden.

Our rickshaw continues through the village and drops us off at a small waterway called Tu Tran. The Mekong Delta, and Ben Tre in particular, is famous for these narrow alleyways of water, where humble sampan boats glide along placid water and underneath a green canopy of nipa palm and coconut trees, which arch over the waterways to create a beautifully verdant corridor. We will disembark after crossing through this and stroll over to the house of Ms. Thuy to enjoy a local, delicious lunch.

At about 13:00, we board another boat and head along one of the run-offs of the Mekong River. Along more lush canals, we find workshops specialising in the creation of coconut candy, making stops at some of them to see how the amazing process takes place. We will finish your Mekong Delta Day Trip with a visit to a redbrick factory, where a tour of its kilns will give us an insight into the ancient techniques of this treasured Mekong Delta craft.

We leave for Ho Chi Minh City at around 14:30 and get back in the late afternoon. You will have a small amount of free time before the evening rolls in, so you could use this chance to visit the Saigon Skydeck at the Bitexco Financial Tower; the perfect place to watch a magnificent sunset descend over the city from high above.

Take breakfast at the hotel and await the arrival of our driver, they will transfer you the 4.5 hours to Mui Ne. Upon arrival, we will check you into your hotel or resort (check in is from 14:00) and your first free afternoon in Mui Ne can be spent however you like.

You can get your first taste of the beach life at Mui Ne Beach. The golden sands here face southwards and stretch for many miles, backed by a verdant carpet of tropical trees. Relaxing all day on the beach is a complete possibility, as vendors selling food and drink will saunter by regularly. If staying at a beachside hotel or resort, your accommodation should have private access to the beach and you will have unlimited access to their services. If kitesurfing appeals to you, then you are in the right place for it. Mui Ne is considered the kitesurfing capital of Southeast Asia due to the strong winds that blow around its cape. Lessons can be taken from any of the professional kitesurfing companies that line the beach, which usually run lessons lasting between 1 and 5 days. Groups are usually kept to a very low 3 or 4 people, meaning that you get the full attention of the instructor as you ply the waves of the East Vietnam Sea.

You could take the chance today to explore more of Mui Ne’s fabulous beaches by getting further outside the town. Fewer tourists make this effort, so a visit to Suoi Nuoc Beach (also called Long Son) will be a quieter and more reclusive one. A 15km taxi drive can get you to the golden sands of this east-facing beach, which is the perfect place to watch a glorious pink sunrise every morning. The beach features some resorts and many humble shacks under the shades of palm trees, harking back to the sleepy fishing village atmosphere that, until recently, encompassed all of Mui Ne.

After another morning spent on Mui Ne’s beaches, you could opt for a Jeep tour, available in a private or group capacity. These half-daytrips are great experiences on any southern Vietnam tour and visit three of Mui Ne’s non-beach attractions, starting with the Fairy Stream. This is a red sand canyon that rises up with solidified sand and rock on either side of a shallow and walkable stream, which offers truly unique photos and a serene, meandering experience. From here, these tours visit Mui Ne Bay, where views atop a cliff look down onto a small, curved beach and the myriad colourful fishing boats speckled around its bay. Tours conclude at the White and Yellow Sand Dunes, comprising a small oasis filled with lotus flowers and several amassed dunes from which you can watch a marvellous sunset.

The final free day of your Mui Ne beach vacation starts with a languid breakfast in the fresh sea air.

Of course, you are free to visit any of Mui Ne’s beaches again today, but there are other ways to relax in this beachside town. One such way is via a visit to one of the many spas of Mui Ne, which offer a wide range of treatments spanning both Asian and European practices. To the south of the town, an 18-hole golf course stands with a view out onto the ocean. This is a great spot for any golf enthusiasts to soak up the relaxed atmosphere, while anyone less inclined to this sport can visit the neighbouring Wine Castle, a unique attraction housing 42,000 varieties of wines, many of which are available for tasting and set in a building styled after a European castle. 

For a more hands-on approach to your Mui Ne resort holiday, you can pay a visit to the Mui Ne Cooking School, where classes on how to create the most iconic of Vietnamese dishes are run.
