Welcome to the ancient beating heart of Vietnam, Hanoi! Our driver will collect you once you touch down in the city’s Noi Bai international airport and they will transfer you to your hotel in the central Old Quarter. You may check in from any time after 14:00.
If you have any free time today after checking in, then you may want to explore the Old Quarter, centered around Hoan Kiem Lake. The road encircling the lake becomes a pedestrianised ‘walking street’ on the weekends, full of exciting street performances, kids’ play areas and a great atmosphere.

Enjoy breakfast in your hotel before our guide arrives at 08:00. Our first stop today will be the Ho Chi Minh complex, the capital’s political centre. We will make stops at the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum, Ba Dinh Square, the Presidential Palace, Ho Chi Minh’s former residence and the One Pillar Pagoda, all of which span Vietnam’s ancient to modern history, thorough its Buddhist roots and colonial past to the end of the Vietnam War. We head south to the Temple of Literature after this, Vietnam’s oldest university, where the philosophies of Confucius were the main subject material for the gifted students who passed the strict entry exam.
We will have lunch after this at a nearby restaurant, followed by a drive to the Museum of Ethnology to garner an understanding of the 54 different ethnic minorities around Vietnam and their varying traditions. Kids will love exploring the full-scale traditional stilt house replicas in the museum’s garden.
We head back to the Old Quarter after this and take a cyclo tour around its ancient streets, looking out for the wonderful mish-mash of architecture and the verdant plants that turn buildings into picture-perfect scenes of tranquillity. Have breakfast early today as our guide and driver will pick you up at your hotel at 07:30. We will take the smooth ride to the north of the country, where we will find Sapa town nestled comfortably amidst the region’s incredible mountains.
We arrive in Sapa town at about 13:00, giving us a chance to have lunch and allowing you to enjoy your free time afterwards. To get a feel for the region you could take the short walk up the town’s Ham Rong Mountain and explore its attached gardens, or alternatively, you could check out the wealth of activity around Sapa Lake.

Activities: Trek through Sapa and stop at Ta Van village for a wonderful homestay experience.
Our tour will begin at 08:30 today, so have breakfast at your hotel beforehand and await our tour guide. We will take a short and scenic drive to Hang Da Church, stopping at a few viewpoints along the way.
We take a quick look around the church when we arrive before pulling on our hiking boots and trekking to Hau Thao village, checking out the majestic expanse of the Muong Hoa Valley below us. We will have constant views of verdant, steeped rice paddies tumbling from mountainsides to the valley floor, dotted with humble villages and the quaint paths that run between them. At Hau Thao village, we will find the Black H’mong ethnic group, the most prominent minority in the region, wearing colourful traditional dress and engaging in the everyday facets of their fascinating culture.
After a short stop here, we head to Pho village and then descend a hill to Giang Ta Chai village, home of the Giay minority. This is where we will have lunch today, followed by a trek on a side trail to a nearby waterfall. We can get some great photos here before we head through a bamboo forest and emerge in Ta Van village, the ending point of what is considered as one of Sapa’s most gorgeous trekking routes.
Once we have arrived in Ta Van, we will check into our traditional Giay minority homestay and have free time to explore the village and the gorgeous scenes available to view from it. We will share dinner with our welcoming host as we hear more about the culture and history of the Giay people.

Activities: Continue our trek through Sapa and arrive back in the main town in the afternoon.
Breakfast will be prepared for us by our wonderful host, after which we will bid farewell and begin our trek to Lao Chai village, a famous commune of the Black H’mong set atop a staircase of lush rice paddies. We will have great views of some of Sapa’s largest and most impressive rice fields from here, so we will stop for a short break, during which we can chat to the locals about living with such an amazing backdrop.
We continue our trek along the side of the valley, enjoying scenes of soaring mountains with wisps of cloud gliding silently before them. We arrive at Y Linh Ho village and rest for a bit, before walking up to the main road, where we will be met with the car that will take us back to Sapa town. We will check you in here and you will have free time in Sapa town to spend the afternoon as you wish. If you still have energy, you could head to the gorgeous Cat Cat village to the west of the town and explore the waterfalls around there. If you have less energy, then a trip via cable car to Fansipan Mountain, the tallest mountain in Indochina, might be a great idea.

Activities: Attend one of Sapa’s markets before heading back to Hanoi.
After breakfast at your hotel, our guide and driver will collect you for an insightful visit into some of the region’s vibrant markets. There is always a great energy about these outdoor markets, as not only do vendors make most of their income here, but they are always an open and communal space where members of tribes and far-off relatives can reunite once a week. Sweeping mountain scenery and raucous laughter provides the backing to these weekly markets, where attendees dress up in their most beautiful traditional clothing to show off to their friends and maybe a potential lover.

Activities: Drive to Halong Bay and enjoy the first day of an overnight cruise here.
After breakfast at your hotel, the guide and driver will meet you in your lobby to transfer you eastwards across the Red River Delta, ending in the legendary Halong Bay. Once we have arrived at the dock, we can board the waiting boat, where a welcome drink will ease us into the cruise in Halong Bay, followed by a delectable seafood lunch shortly afterwards.
The enrapturing beauty of Halong Bay will be on full display as we cruise through its placid waters, watching the limestone mountains standing proudly on either side of us. Much of the day will be a fantastic balance between relaxing time on the boat and engaging in activities in the bay. We will head out on kayaks along the calm, emerald water, finding islands such as Titop and caves such as Sung Sot, where the whole family will be struck with awe.
Sunset and a gorgeous dinner on the boat will pave the way for the evening, which brings an ambient atmosphere and fun activities such as squid fishing off the back of the boat and potentially some karaoke.
Stay overnight in Halong Bay.

Activities: Finish the Halong Bay 2-day cruise, return to Hanoi and fly to Da Nang, followed by the short transfer to Hoi An.
There will be a chance for some early morning tai chi on the sundeck, where the beauty of Halong Bay begins anew during sunrise. Breakfast will follow this in the dining room before you relax into a morning of cruising, taking as much time on the sundeck as possible as you squeeze every drop of paradise out of this surreal landscape.
We cruise slowly back to the harbour as lunch is served, docking at about midday and meeting the guide and driver at the pier. From here, we will head to Hanoi’s airport and take the domestic flight to Da Nang, where a new driver will collect you and take you south for about 45 minutes to Hoi An.
The splendour of Hoi An will hit you within the first few sights of the town’s glorious vibrant buildings and its colourful swaying lanterns. We will drop you off amongst these buildings at your hotel, where you will be able to check in and dive straight into the warm nighttime atmosphere of this ancient, UNESCO-protected town.

Activities: Engage in Hoi An’s agricultural activities on a farm tour and river cruise before free time.
Our tour begins at 08.00 today, so enjoy breakfast beforehand and wait in the lobby, our guide will meet you with bikes for the whole family. We set out on flat, paved paths through the town and around its more rural areas, stopping along the way to take in the idyllic Vietnamese scenes that we find in the rice paddies and small, tranquil communes.
We arrive at Tra Que farming village, a large island lying in the middle of Hoi An’s northern river, where all crops are 100% organic due to using fertiliser made from seaweed. We can learn more about this and let the kids get hands-on during a farming tour, led by an experienced farmer as we water, plant and harvest vegetables. Precious moments abound on this excursion, the highlight of which will probably be your child’s ride on a water buffalo as they plough the fields.
After this, we continue cycling and end at Bay Mau Forest, containing acres of luxuriant nipa palm left to grow wild in the river. We will board a bamboo basket boat and head straight into the nipa forest, enjoying the romantic scenes that the plants create with their tall figures and gently arching tops.
We return to Hoi An at this point and you will have the rest of the afternoon as free time. It would be a good idea to use this day to explore the historic centre of Hoi An, buying an Ancient Town pass to do so. This gives you access to 5 out of 21 available heritage buildings, along with a whole host of tailors and their vast experience in creating cheap made-to-measure clothes.

Depending on the time that you arrive, you may have time to make it to Suoi Tien Amusement Park, Ho Chi Minh City’s eccentric Buddhism-themed water park, which offers a great afternoon of entertainment for kids. Alternatively, stick to the centre of the city and explore some of its modern history at the Independence Palace and War Remnants Museum, along with the city’s current pace of life at Ben Thanh Market.

Activities: Visit the unique Cao Dai Temple and explore the Cu Chi tunnels before returning to Ho Chi Minh City.
Take breakfast in the hotel before our guide comes to pick you up. The first part of our tour will be very unique as we visit the brilliantly eclectic Cao Dai Temple, standing about 80km northwest of the city. This vibrant and bizarre building was borne of the Cao Dai religion, the followers of which promote tolerance of all religions and reflect this in their main temple’s architecture. Christian, Buddhist, Confucian, Hindu, and Islamic elements comprise the colourful building, with a strikingly distinctive appearance enhanced by the inclusion of classic European pillars ensnared by ornate Asian dragons.
We attend the fascinating daily mass here at midday before retiring to a quiet spot for lunch. After this, we head in the direction of Ho Chi Minh City, stopping 50km along the way to visit the Cu Chi Tunnels. This 250km web of tunnels fans out from underneath the jungle floor, a highly effective system that helped the Viet Cong to overthrow South Vietnam during the war.
A brief video will introduce us to the tunnels before we climb inside, walking through the incredible maze and finding treatment rooms, storage rooms, command centres and entire living quarters where communist soldiers held up for months at a time. Outside, we find the many trap doors that the Viet Cong used to deceive the Americans and see examples of past fighting, such as in the burnt-out American tank left here. We will have a snack of tea and cassava, the typical diet of the Viet Cong, before returning to Ho Chi Minh City.

Activities: Discover the Mekong Delta on a boat tour around a floating market and a walk around its villages.
Have breakfast early this morning, our guide will pick you up at 06:00 to ensure that we make it in time to see one of the Mekong Delta’s most attractive spectacles, the Cai Be floating market. This market takes place on the waters of the Mekong River, where vendors and buyers will bargain in good spirits over colourful food, clothes, tools and anything else they need for the day ahead. Try your hand at haggling for a great deal on your own necessities from our private boat.
After this, we dock at the riverbanks and take a walk around the villages and orchards that dot the shore. The Mekong Delta supplies around 60% of the entire country’s fruit output, and this is very noticeable on a tour across its fertile ground. We climb into a bamboo canoe after this to head through the secretive and lush canals, where tropical foliage rises from the river and stretches high above us.
We continue our cruise, stopping along the way to show the children how delicious coconut candy and crispy rice popcorn are made in villages’ rustic workshops. We will walk to Binh Hoa Phuoc village and enjoy its very peaceful surrounds, observable during lunch from our restaurant in the middle of a luxuriant garden. A delightful walk through a bonsai garden will come before our transfer back to Ho Chi Minh City.
