Itinerary

Activities: Land in Ho Chi Minh City and enjoy a welcome dinner to start your Vietnam family tour.

Welcome to the modern hub of Vietnam, Ho Chi Minh City. Upon arrival to the city’s Tan Son Nhat international airport, you will be picked up by the guide and driver and transferred to your hotel in the city’s centre. Check in here (from any time after 14:00) and ease into the new pace of Vietnam in your own time.

Our guide will return to your hotel at a pre-arranged time to take you and your family for a welcome dinner at a lovely local restaurant with plenty of options to satisfy everyone.

Dinner is the only included meal on the first day. Please make your own arrangements for other meals and stay overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

 Meals:  Dinner

Activities: Take a half-day city tour of Ho Chi Minh City before exploring the neighbouring Cu Chi Tunnels.

Take a family breakfast at your hotel and await the arrival of our guide. Our first stop on today’s half-day city tour will be the Independence Palace, also called the Reunification Palace, both of which refer to Vietnam’s successful 20th-century campaigns to both oust the colonial French and reunite the divided country. We follow this with a visit to the War Remnants Museum, which will give us a better understanding about the Vietnam War. We finish the city tour with a look around the impressive colonial architecture of the Notre Dame Cathedral and adjacent Post Office before sitting down to lunch at a local restaurant.

After this, we take the drive to the Cu Chi Tunnels, a staggering 250km underground network of Viet Cong hospitals, command centres, living quarters and weapons factories, all on the doorstep of Saigon. We will walk around the tunnels and explore the modern history within, emerging afterwards to find examples of past skirmishes in the bomb craters and burnt out tanks that litter the jungle floor above. Following this, we take the drive back to Ho Chi Minh City for another night here.

Make your own arrangements for dinner and stay overnight in Ho Chi Minh City.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Explore the local markets, trades and life in the Mekong Delta by cruising and cycling.

Our departure time this morning is 08:00, so you can enjoy breakfast with your family before meeting our guide in your hotel lobby. We will head south past some typically beautiful Vietnamese countryside scenery, ending on the shores of the mighty Mekong River within the Mekong Delta. We stop at Cai Be, the location of one of the delta’s best floating markets, into which we will cruise on a quaint local boat and discover the vibrant sights within.

After this, we dock on the lush green shores of the Mekong River and take a look at some of the local trades in operation here. Rice popcorn and rice paper are just two of these, operating out of humble, family-run workshops in attractive riverside villages. At a local house, the obliging owners will cook a delicious lunch for us, followed by a chance to relax in their verdant gardens or explore more of the Mekong Delta via cycling along picturesque village paths.

We take a final river cruise to Vinh Long, where our vehicle will be awaiting to take us to the hub of the Mekong Delta and Vietnam’s fourth largest city, Can Tho.

Make your own arrangements for dinner and stay overnight in Can Tho.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Attend a floating market before returning to Ho Chi Minh City to catch our flight to Da Nang, followed by our short transfer to Hoi An.

We rise early today before breakfast to set out for the Cai Rang floating market, another of the lively areas of trading between locals of the Mekong Delta. We will see the exciting daily scenes on display here and maybe take the opportunity to grab our own bargains, after which we will return to the hotel to relax for the rest of the morning.

The driver will arrive in the early afternoon to take you to Ho Chi Minh City’s airport, where our flight to Da Nang awaits. In Da Nang, your new guide and driver will collect you and complete the journey with a 45-minute transfer to Hoi An.

Whatever is left of the day is yours to spend as free time, so this offers a great chance to head to Hoi An’s tailors, who will create personally fitted clothes for a fraction of the price that you would get them for back home. These clothes can take a few days to make, so it’s best to order them early and pick them up before leaving the town.

Make your own arrangements for lunch and dinner and stay overnight in Hoi An.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Take a hands-on morning tour of Hoi An’s rural surroundings before free time in the afternoon.

After breakfast this morning, your family can take the choice of either a bus or a pleasant cycle to Tra Que, a nearby organic farming village. The welcoming farmers here will show us the traditional techniques that they still use to grow their crops, letting you and the kids get stuck into the planting, watering and harvesting of exotic produce. A popular highlight for children is riding atop a placid water buffalo and ploughing the rice fields – truly a precious family moment.

From here, we board a local coracle – a round-bottomed ‘basket boat’ used as simple but effective fishing vessels by the locals. We continue to learn more about agricultural traditions as our guide explains the locals’ continued use of age-old techniques, giving the chance to the kids to cast their fishing nets into the river and paddle the unique basket boats upstream. We head through beautifully luxuriant canals flanked by deep-green nipa palm and emerge on land, where we will tour the gorgeous local villages, returning to the boat afterwards for a tasty lunch.

We return to Hoi An after this for a free afternoon. After all the excitement of the morning, perhaps your family would appreciate some relaxing time at the beach, available on Hoi An’s northwestern white-sand coast at Cua Dai and An Bang.

Make your own arrangements for dinner and stay overnight in Hoi An.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Enjoy an entirely free day in Hoi An.

Rise at a time that suits you this morning; your family will be able to discuss plans for your free day over breakfast.

Hoi An has many family-friendly activities, one of its best being a visit to the nearby Cham Islands, Hoi An’s archipelago of tropical scenery and white-sand paradise. Alternatively, you could head on a daytrip to Sun World Ba Na Hills, a French-style resort containing an amusement park, wax museum, plethora of cultural shows and Vietnam’s modern phenomenon, the Golden Bridge.

Make your own arrangements for lunch and dinner and stay overnight in Hoi An.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Take the scenic drive to Hue, stopping off at some beautiful locations before arriving in the old capital and taking a brief city tour.

Eat breakfast at the hotel and prepare for one of the most gorgeous days of the tour. From Hoi An we take the drive to Hue, stopping off at the gorgeous Marble Mountains where the five elements of Buddhism are honoured. Continuing through Da Nang we reach the Hai Van Pass, regularly touted as one of the most beautiful coastal roads on the planet, containing forested mountains, waterfalls and a constant view of the ocean along its winding 21km length.

Following this, we relax on the stunning Lang Co Beach, a straight stretch of sand sandwiched between soaring mountain peaks on one side and the deep blue of the East Vietnam Sea on the other. We complete the drive to Hue after this and check you into your hotel (available after 14:00). Our tour guide will arrive in the afternoon to take you on a quick tour of the city, visiting the city’s grandest attraction, the stately Imperial Citadel, home to the Nguyen Dynasty during their 143-year rule of Vietnam. We complete the tour at Dong Ba market to see some of the local delicacies and products of Hue.

Make your own arrangements for lunch and dinner and stay overnight in Hue.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Engage in a comprehensive tour of Hue and its rural districts.

Take breakfast and prepare your family for a lovely day in resplendent Hue. We will find evidence of the city’s imperial past in its outskirts today, starting with some of the wonderfully elaborate tombs that honour some of the 13 Nguyen kings who ruled as Vietnam’s final monarchy. Two of these, King Minh Mang’s tomb and King Khai Dinh’s tomb, are beautifully constructed and lie in the middle of Hue’s verdant tropical countryside, giving us a more comprehensive understanding of Hue as well as the opportunity for many great photos with the family.

We have a special vegetarian lunch at a local Buddhist monastery lined up for the early afternoon, after which we return to Hue and jump onto our bicycles. Cycling along flat countryside paths, we reach Thanh Toan Bridge, a brilliant and unique covered bridge over a placid river, set amidst idyllic Vietnamese scenery. We will take time to relax on various stages of the cycling tour, allowing the kids to roam free and enjoy the sights of ducks waddling through paddies of golden rice, all before returning to Hue.

Make your own arrangements for dinner and stay overnight in Hue.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch

Activities: Transfer to Hanoi via Hue’s airport and explore the capital via an afternoon city tour.

Breakfast at the hotel will come before your transfer to Hue’s Phu Bai airport, where your flight will take you to Vietnam’s capital, Hanoi. Upon arrival, your new guide and driver will welcome you warmly and take you to your hotel in the city’s Old Quarter, the animated centre filled with beautiful architecture and areas of rustic beauty.

After relaxing into new your hotel, the guide will return to take you on a tour of the Old Quarter and its many lively streets. Villagers from around the country settled here in the past, creating close-knit communities and bringing different ideologies from all around the country. French colonial and modern architecture sit amongst and beneath Vietnamese buildings, creating a unique backdrop for the many locals and tourists here. We will also stop at some of Hanoi’s cultural highlights like the Fine Arts Museum and the beautiful Temple of Literature.

Make your own arrangements for lunch and dinner and stay overnight in Hanoi.

 Meals:  Breakfast

Activities: Drive to Halong Bay and complete the first day of an overnight cruise.

Have a filling breakfast before your private vehicle arrives to take you eastwards to world-renowned Halong Bay. We will meet the awaiting cruise at about midday, quickly embarking on it and setting off into an emerald seascape of jutting limestone towers and undulating mountains.

We will have a gloriously fresh lunch of seafood as we take our first steps into the bay, watching the solemn karst rocks as they glide silently by the window. There will be plenty of time to relax on the boat, either in your cabin or atop the sundeck, which offers panoramic views of the open bay. The itinerary is also speckled with various excursions that provide your family with a closer look at the bay, including trips to islands, caves and floating villages, crowned with an unforgettable sunset from the wooden deck of the cruise.

After this, a splendid dinner will be served in the dining room, followed by an evening of the purest tranquility in the moonlit bay. Families can enjoy private time while squid fishing together off the smaller tender boat, all before retiring to the cabin for a very peaceful sleep.

Stay overnight in Halong Bay.

 Meals:  Breakfast, Lunch, Dinner

Activities: Finish the Halong Bay cruise before returning to Hanoi.

Enjoy a beautiful sunrise from your Halong Bay cruise, taking in the exquisite beauty and atmosphere to be cherished here. A lovely breakfast will follow this, as will a morning of utmost relaxation as we continue to cruise through the bay. There will be a visit to one of Halong Bay’s incredible limestone caves during a relaxing morning full of perfect family time, followed by a return to the harbour while a full lunch is served.

At the harbour, we disembark and take the transfer back to Hanoi, arriving at your hotel in the late afternoon and giving you the option of some of Hanoi’s wonderful evening entertainment.

"An Unforgettable Vietnamese Odyssey - 10 Days"

Vietnam Family Tour from South to North

We would like to give Gam Nguyen a special mention for all her support and assisting us with our 10-day family holiday on our incredibly memorable Vietnam adventure. Gam Nguyen picked us up from the Airport on her day off and even got the kids presents, she was extremely helpful in organizing our entire itinerary and checked-in on us daily to ensure we were being taken care of and made us feel very welcomed. Our Vietnam holiday was an unforgettable journey that exceeded all our expectations. From the enchanting landscapes to the vibrant culture, Vietnam had it all. Ho Chi Minh City, was a bustling metropolis with a thriving energy and great shopping at the Ben Thanh Markets Hanoi, with its chaotic yet charming streets, gave us a taste of authentic Vietnamese life. We strolled through the Old Quarter, savoring street food delicacies and engaging with friendly locals. The bustling markets were a sensory delight. Halong Bay was a true masterpiece of nature. The tranquil boat ride among the limestone islets left us speechless. We kayaked into hidden lagoons, explored mystical caves, and marveled at the sunset over the bay – a memory we'll cherish forever. Hoi An provided a window into Vietnam's imperial history and architecture. The ancient old town and the lantern-lit streets of Hoi An were like stepping back in time. Throughout our journey, the Vietnamese hospitality was exceptional. The people we met were warm, welcoming, and eager to share their culture. It's these personal interactions that made our trip truly special. We would highly recommend Incredible Asia Journeys and Gam Nguyen, Thanks to all our tour guides.
