When you search images for Tam Coc or Trang An you may see many photos of boat rowers in Ninh Binh taking their hands over their heads and row the boats by their feet easily. That is amazing! However, you may not see those boat rowers using their feet on your trip because the local authority does not wish them to do that. The reason is “ Respecting tourists”. Anyway, you may ask them to do it if you wish and they may use the feet on the way where they do not see the security guards. That is also a way to rest their arms after a long trip.Ms. Thanh – A boat rower said that when you can use boat arms and feet then using feet is a better way as feet are stronger than arms but of course, that is only when you are skillful and you can use both of arms and feet well. Both Trang An and Tam Coc, you will take a sampan boat without shelter so please bring a hat with you in case it is rainy or sunny.Trang AnThe difference between Tam Coc and Trang An Boat Trip The scenery and boat trip Tam Coc has been known as Dry Halong Bay for a long time while Trang An is a new route, especially for international tourists.  The length for a boat trip in Trang An and Tam Coc is different. The boat trip in Tam Coc is about 2 hours while the boat trip in Trang An can be from 2.5 to 3.5 hours depending on the route. Many people say Tam Coc is more natural while Trang An is artificial. There is Thai Vy Temple which is not so far from the river where you take the boat trip but if you wish to visit it you should ask the boat rower. Your boat rower will stop for you to walk there and set up the meeting point. In this case, tips for your boat rower is advised.Boat Trip RouteThere is only one route for Tam Coc so when you buy the tickets you do not need to choose any but there are some routes for Trang An Boat trip so when you buy tickets you can choose a route with more or fewer caves and temples, shore trip or long trip. There are 3 caves in Tam Coc while there are 9 caves in Trang An and there are some routes which you can choose with more or fewer caves as said above.Tickets In Tam Coc you will pay 2 kinds of tickets, one is sight-seeing tickets, the other is a boat tour.A sight-seeing ticket is 120,000VND/Person and boat is 150,000 VND/Boat.For foreigners, the maximum is 2 persons and Vietnamese the maximum is 4 persons/boat. However, waiting for others is not a problem there are quite a lot of travellers every day. OthersTam Coc is a small area and considered as small Halong Bay while Trang An is a larger area. While you are on the boat trip in Tam Coc, you will pass local houses and see local people working while the boat trip in Trang An will go through natural area only where you only see tourists.Tam Coc is really beautiful in the rice field but Trang An is still very beautiful and many say Trang An is more beautiful than Tam Coc.The best time to visit Tam Coc is from May to early June for the rice season. From March to April is good also when the rice field is green. However, if you visit Ninh Binh from March to April please do not visit Trang An as that is the domestic tourist season. Halong Bay or Ninh Binh

Halong Bay or Ninh Binh

It was never quite pinpointed exactly who was the first person to describe Ninh Binh as ‘Halong Bay on Land’. The phrase has become popular for the sole reason that it is repeated by pretty much every guide before every tour of Ninh Binh in the hopes of inspiring images of the famous, original Halong Bay. It’s certainly not a bad comparison to make, and as the popularity of Halong Bay grows higher, more and more tourists are looking to Ninh Binh as a way to beat the crowds while still enjoying that world-renowned limestone karst backdrop. These are two of the most popular day trips from Hanoi, but as Ninh Binh’s infrastructure grows while Halong Bay struggles to cope with consistently high tourist levels every year, there seems to be a new momentum shift, and the question of Halong Bay or Ninh Binh is crossing more minds than it did in the past.Overview of Halong BayLimestone IslandsThe entire reason that the words ‘Halong Bay on Land’ feature in so many TripAdvisor reviews from contented tourists is that Ninh Binh’s scenery matches Halong Bay stride for stride. You could transplant any of Halong Bay’s gorgeous limestone mountains in Ninh Binh and it wouldn’t look out of place at all. A visit to either Halong Bay or Ninh Binh is one with the guarantee of amazement at the near-identical rock pillars jutting out of the water. Of course, it’s the water itself that makes all the difference, as the huge expanse of the Gulf of Tonkin where Halong Bay lies dwarfs the tiny canals found around Ninh Binh.Certainly, there is more on offer in Halong Bay, but views are pretty much the same throughout any day or overnight trip. There are a few exceptional limestone mountains in Halong Bay, including Titop Island, Hon Co and Fighting Cock Island, featuring proudly on the 200,000 VND note. Aside from looking at them, you can disembark your cruise and feel the rock and sand beneath your feet, providing a ‘castaway’ feeling that you can’t really get in Ninh Binh. What you can get in Ninh Binh, however, is a more enclosed feeling, as the thinner water paths are flanked by high-rising cliffs stretching proudly upwards. This makes the atmosphere a little more magical in our opinion, but there are very few opportunities to get up really close and personal with the mountains. In fact, there’s only one: Lying Dragon Mountain, a 450-step climb to a statue of a winding dragon and a view of the valley below, where the river skirts its way around the foothills of forested mountains.View from Lying Dragon MountainHalong Bay or Ninh Binh?• Halong Bay probably takes this one through sheer quantity, but it’s a very close call.TransportationA big part of discovering Halong Bay or Ninh Binh is the method of transport used to get around. Obviously, in Halong Bay, there’s really only one, given that it’s on the sea. In Ninh Binh, there’s a few, because of its access to land and roads as well as rivers.Cruises around Halong Bay span the gamut from cheap, no-thrills day boats to 5-star luxury cruises, and the same waterways are shared between everyone. Activities don’t vary too much between cheap and expensive cruises, but the quality of life onboard certainly does. The cheaper day boats usually comprise of one large sitting room with benches and an undecorated sundeck on top, while a 3-day cruise on a luxury boat will give you a feeling of royalty with top-class amenities, service and food; though it will potentially be about 10 times more expensive. When you want to get up close and personal with the bay, you can explore via kayak, a sampan boat rowed by a local, swimming or even a seaplane on the most exclusive of cruises.Cruise in Halong Bay with Incredible CruiseThe 90% of Halong Bay that you will see by cruise is not the same in Ninh Binh, where you have the options of cycling, trekking, climbing, motorcycling and taking a variety of different boats on its waterways. The most popular activity is certainly the local service that operates the sampan boats made of bamboo and paddled by middle-aged ladies (and a token couple of men) with their feet. At Tam Coc in Ninh Binh, these boats will carry you down the Ngo Dong River, while at Van Long Nature Reserve, they fan out into the wide basin of wetlands. Taking a cycle around the village of Tam Coc also finds regular appeal with tourists and visitors can rent bikes easily for a very good price. Motorcycling and trekking are usually reserved for Cuc Phuong National Park and its long path that cuts through the jungle, while multi-day treks to villages of the Muong minority tribe can be made at the north-west corner of the park.Boating in Tam CocHalong Bay or Ninh Binh?• With a wider range of activities for getting around, Ninh Binh wins here.Check our best tours to Ninh Binh from Hanoi: Hoa Lu Tam Coc Day Trip, Trang An - Bai Dinh Full Day Tour, Tam Coc Bich Dong Full Day Tour, and Cuc Phuong National Park Day Trip.CavesNeither Halong Bay nor Ninh Binh has Vietnam’s best cave systems; you’ll have to go to Phong Nha for that, but there are some pretty amazing offerings in both locations. Halong Bay’s caves are a big part of the reason that UNESCO has inducted the region twice into the World Heritage list, once in 1994 and again in 2000. Its most famous by far is Sung Sot Cave, translating to the ‘the Surprising Cave’ allegedly after a French explorer was surprised by its presence and the hundreds of differently shaped rock formations found throughout. This cave features on a lot of tour itineraries alongside the less frequent appearances of Me Cung, Trinh Nu, Trong, and Thien Cung, but quite possibly its most incredible is Luon Cave, a very short corridor of water that, when kayaked through, reveals an enclosed emerald lake shimmering on the other side.Sung Sot CaveBy comparison, Ninh Binh is relatively lacking in the cave department. You will be rowed through a few in Tam Coc, Trang An and in the Van Long wetlands, though they are really just short gaps in the mountains. The caves still create a wonderful atmosphere, but nothing like the grandeur of Halong Bay, where stalactites and stalagmites dwarf people and are illuminated in colourful lights for a more dramatic effect. The best example of a Ninh Binh cave is definitely the Cave of the Prehistoric Man in Cuc Phuong National Park, excavated in 1966 to reveal an array of human graves as well as sharp weapons and tools dating back over 7,500 years.Halong Bay or Ninh Binh?• Halong Bay. It is famous for its amazing caves and will continue to best Ninh Binh until more are potentially discovered.Halong Bay Cruises that go to Halong Bay: V'Spirit Premier Cruise, Perla Dawn Sails Halong Bay, Indochina Sails, V’Spirit Cruise, Aphrodite Cruise, Alisa Cruise.FarmingTwo of the most beautiful sights you’ll see in Vietnam are locals going about their farming in both Halong Bay and Ninh Binh. They use vastly different methods and harvest vastly different products, but the process of planting (or breeding) to harvest affords the most amazing views. One wouldn’t assume Halong Bay would be able to engage in much farming, but the villagers here are very adept at the cultivation of fish, which is the origin for human habitation in the bay. Fishing villages such as Cua Van and Ba Hang, as well as Vung Vieng in Bai Tu Long Bay, remains as stalwarts of a way of life that’s becoming more and more redundant and being kept alive for the tourism trade. These colourful floating houses sit atop huge buoyant drums and bob up and down with the water, just metres from a backdrop of gorgeous limestone. It’s clear to see how the allure of tourist money has replaced the meagre living families can make with traditional fish farming, but you can see examples of this past practice through enlightening farming demonstrations.Cua Van Fishing VillageAbout 220km south-west of Halong Bay, Ninh Binh is a completely different level of agriculture. Rice paddies took over the perfect flat valleys in the past and Ninh Binh is now known as one of the best spots in the country to see golden rice paddies stretching far into the distance. Tam Coc and Trang An especially are favourites for their views, aided heavily by the presence of undulating mountain scenery rolling further beyond the rice fields here. A visit between the start May and the end of June will allow for views of the typically crisp, golden fields that tourists come from afar to see. Tam Coc PanoramaHalong Bay or Ninh Binh?• Ninh Binh. Though beautiful, the token offerings of Halong Bay’s fishing villages pale in comparison to the splendour of Ninh Binh’s rice fields.Relaxing vs Exploring CultureOf course, you can relax and explore in either Halong Bay or Ninh Binh, but overall there is a pretty clear divide between the two of them when it comes to available activities.Halong Bay’s beaches are another of the region’s huge attractions, and while certainly not the most remote in the world, the white sand coupled with the feeling of being on another, much more beautiful planet equates to one hell of a relaxing time. Some of the more luxury cruises commit entire days to hang out at the beach, with just the serving of lunch and the availability of swimming and kayaking to tempt you away from the sands. Well, this is actually more of a feature of both of Halong Bay’s neighbouring bays, Bai Tu Long Bay and Lan Ha Bay; Halong Bay features a small number of accessible beaches, which can get pretty touristy. For the best time in the Gulf of Tonkin, head to Ban Chan and Ngoc Vung beaches in Bai Tu Long Bay, or Ba Trai Dao beach in Lan Ha Bay.Kayaking in Halong BayThe more adventurous readers might prefer to head to Ninh Binh, and in particular Hoa Lu, for an interesting look at Vietnamese culture throughout its history. Hoa Lu was once the capital of Vietnam for 44 years, spanning the reign of two separate kings who had set up shop here and is now a fascinating area with temples, statues and monuments behind a gorgeous palatial gate and moat. Bich Dong Pagoda sits near a lily pond in Tam Coc, rising high as you climb up steps and through temples and caverns to the amazing view provided from the top. However, Bai Dinh is the jewel in the crown of Ninh Binh’s religious buildings; its Buddhist complex spans 700 hectares, all of which stems from one tall pagoda built over one thousand years ago. If you get the understandable feeling of ‘temple fatigue’ in Ninh Binh, you can visit Phat Diem Cathedral, sure to be one of the most unique mixes of Asian and Western architecture that you will ever see.Halong Bay or Ninh Binh?• This one is down to personal preference, so we’re going to call this round a draw.TourismEvery tourist hears the same stories of overcrowding on Halong Bay’s waters and islands, and that sometimes makes the decision of whether to head to Halong Bay or Ninh Binh an easy one. Rumours aren’t always true, however.Though it is true that Halong Bay gets substantially more tourists than Ninh Binh does (what doubly-recognised UNESCO World Heritage site wouldn’t?), it is certainly not the picture of converging crowds that people like to paint. In its 1,553km2 frame, believe it or not, Halong Bay, can still be postcard-perfect, free of tourists and utterly serene. Areas like Ho Dong Tien (Fairy Lake Cave) and Luon Cave can bestow the ultimate feeling of calm through the isolation they provide. There are many, many more examples of tranquil spots across the neighbouring bays, which are quieter still during Gulf of Tonkin’s off-season over winter and summer.Van Long Nature ReserveNinh Binh, on the other hand, is a province on the rise. There are big plans by the Vietnam National Administration of Tourism to make Ninh Binh the next destination recognised internationally, as Halong Bay is now. There’s a long way to go, but the entire province boasts nature and variety in abundance, so there’s no reason to assume it won’t happen. This means that right now is probably the best time to see Ninh Binh to avoid eventual crowds. Crowding can indeed be a small problem for the more popular activities such as the boat trips in Tam Coc and Trang An as well as some of the cycling paths when the rice paddies are golden. There are always alternatives though, and Van Long Nature Reserve, as well as Cuc Phuong National Park, provide two great ones with plenty of space for the future.Halong Bay or Ninh Binh?• For sheer levels of tourists on an average peak season day, you’ll probably get more space in Ninh Binh.So Ninh Binh just tips the balance at the end there, but of course, all of these aspects of both destinations are meant to suggest and guide, not instruct. Fantastic times can be found in both Halong Bay and Ninh Binh, and you can enjoy both on day trips from Hanoi with Incredible Asia Journeys.

Van Long Nature Reserve – Ninh Binh’s Hidden Waterway

Van Long Nature Reserve – Ninh Binh’s Hidden Waterway

The steadily growing popularity of Van Long Nature Reserve in Vietnam’s Ninh Binh Province is exclusively among foreign tourists. Locals have known about this sanctuary of wildlife for a long time, often choosing it above Tam Coc for their boat trips around the jagged limestone teeth and tranquil waterways of Ninh Binh. The unsaturated nature of Van Long is its biggest draw; boat tours are dirt cheap, unblemished views abound and the aura of the area is more placid than that of (sometimes) tourist-heavy Tam Coc. Here’s everything you need to know about Van Long Nature Reserve.Sunset in Van Long Nature ReserveVan Long Nature ReserveEssentially, an untouched paradise spanning no less than 3,500 hectares. Two decades of tourism in the area since 1998 have not ruined its ecology, with a broad river running around the foothills of the forested mountains that are spread sporadically throughout Van Long. The wide sky that spans Van Long produces some truly magical pictures on clear days and at sunset, which can be seen in the pink and orange hues over distant mountains.Along with the picture of perfect scenery, Van Long Nature Reserve is home to about 250 different species of animals, including 72 varieties of birds; a dreamland for birdwatchers. Vast swathes of swooping egrets and low-flying stalks make for the most amazing sights in Van Long, while crakes and kingfishers watch on from the rocks and reed branches. Primate enthusiasts can get their fair share of joy as well from a Van Long boat trip. The area is known for being one of the last remaining homes of Delacouri langur monkeys, a species in the ‘red book’ of endangered animals in Vietnam, but one that has found sanctuary amid the wooded mountains protected from poachers and predators by Van Long’s river.`Boat day trip in Van LongWhere is Van Long Nature Reserve?Right in the northern reaches of Ninh Binh, close to the southern border of Ha Nam Province. Just half an hour from Tam Coc and Ninh Binh City, it is also the closest of Ninh Binh’s attractions to Hanoi, taking about 1 hour and 45 minutes to reach from the capital. Its proximity makes it a good choice for a day trip from Hanoi, or it can be seen as part of a longer multi-day expedition to Ninh Binh’s other attractions like Cuc Phuong National Park and the ancient capital city of Hoa Lu.Solo travellers can travel here by bike, which takes just under 2 hours down the normal route, or just under 3 hours if you decide to take the more scenic Ho Chi Minh Highway, which is a good idea for people who set out early enough. Buses and trains from Hanoi to Ninh Binh are very regular, but a taxi will need to be sorted out for the final leg to Van Long Nature Reserve. When should I go to Van Long Nature Reserve?Like Tam Coc, the waterways of Van Long contain stretching green fields of rice that turn gold during harvest time from around late April to early June. While this affords the best views and the most farming activity in Van Long throughout the year, it also brings the most tourists. As much of a problem as this is for Tam Coc, it is less of a problem for Van Long, which still enjoys plenty of space and serenity during high season. If it’s more solitude you’re after, then maybe a visit during March will be more appropriate, when the lush green rice is out. Many domestic tourists are still reeling from an expensive Vietnamese New Year in February and are less likely to book a holiday during this time, clearing the waters for you to soak up views in the cool temperatures. The times to avoid are essentially mid-June to late mid-September, the wet season in the North of Vietnam and December to February, the cold and grey season. While increased privacy during these times is a bonus, the fact that you might be struggling to stay upright in the capsizing boat might put a dampener on your relaxing time.A corner of Van Long Nature ReserveWhat is there to do at Van Long Nature Reserve?Of course, the main draw is the boat tour, a 90-minute round trip that floats under caves and in the shadows of the great karst rocks towering above. At 60,000 VND ($3) a ticket, you really can’t complain. Be sure to give the rower a small tip at the end, as they surely don’t earn a lot from the tickets. As we mentioned before, bird watching is a great activity for enthusiasts because of the 72 different species on show. Long, slow boat rides are perfect to get wonderful snaps of nesting or flocking rare birds. The path that runs adjacent to the wetlands is perfect for cycling, walking or jogging and the best times to do this are at sunrise or sunset, when the light colours meld in the sky and their image is reflected on the undisturbed water below.Bird Watching in Van Long Nature Reserve

5 Best Places to Visit in Ninh Binh

5 Best Places to Visit in Ninh Binh

There is usually a bit of confusion surrounding the best places to visit in Ninh Binh so let’s clear that up first. Ninh Binh is the name of both the province and the capital city of that province, while areas around it like Tam Coc, and Hoa Lu belong to the province, not the city. Many tourists come to Ninh Binh City imagining hundreds of things to go and see, but in reality, the city is just a hub for excursions to other destinations around the province. The close proximity of Ninh Binh Province to Hanoi is the reason why tourism is booming in this region, with many tour operators from Hanoi offering a quick tour of many of Ninh Binh Province’s beautiful and bizarre sites.  Hoa Lu Citadel Here are our top 5 best places to visit in Ninh Binh 1. Tam Coc – Hoa Lu What is Tam Coc – Hoa Lu? Usually offered together as a package because of how close they are to each other, Tam Coc and Hoa Lu offer stunning Vietnamese scenery and vibrant Vietnamese history respectively. Tam Coc and Hoa Lu have become vital experiences on any Vietnam tour in recent years, with tourism booming in the region and locals benefitting from it. What activities are in Tam Coc – Hoa Lu? Tour packages offer similar itineraries: a visit to the ancient capital of Hoa Lu with its two temples, a local sampan boat ride down the Ngo Dong River and a scenic bike ride down the village roads of Tam Coc. These are great excursions to get a feel of Ninh Binh Province for one day, but those with more time could spend another day in Tam Coc, perhaps at the magnificent Bich Dong Pagoda or Thung Nham Bird Park. Tam Coc Panorama When to visit Tam Coc – Hoa Lu Tam Coc’s golden rice fields are definitely one of the best places to visit in Ninh Binh, but this site is only available between about late April and early June. Any excursions outside of this time should ideally be earlier in the year, as rice is only planted in February and the fields are barren after the harvest. Hoa Lu Tam Coc Day Trip is a good option for your trip to Ninh Binh. 2. Cuc Phuong National Park What is Cuc Phuong National Park? There was a big hype at the opening of Cuc Phuong National Park in 1962. It was the first national park to be opened in the country and the person to cut the ribbon was none other than Mr. Ho Chi Minh himself. Since that time, Cuc Phuong has received a fair deal of controversy; illegal logging, endangering protected animals and a political battle between the government and the native Muong tribe to name a few. However, Cuc Phuong National Park remains a beautiful wooded area of historical and ethnic significance.Mac Lake in Cuc Phuong National Park What activities are in Cuc Phuong National Park? The struggle of animals in Cuc Phuong is highlighted by the Endangered Primate Rescue Centre, a collection of enclosures that support 150 primates through several different endangered species. The Turtle Conservation Centre just over the road does a similar service for everyone’s favourite reptile. The lives of pre-historic men can be seen in several caves dotted around the park; these served as homes thousands of years ago but some have been discovered only very recently. The 6km return trek to the thousand-year-old tree is always popular, but the more adventurous can opt for a 16km return trek to a Muong village on the outskirts of the park.Trekking in Cuc Phuong National Park When to visit Cuc Phuong National Park October to March are the dry months, with December and January having the potential to be a bit chilly. If it’s trekking you’re after, then perhaps avoid a visit between July and August when the rainy season is in full force, and possibly April to June too, when it becomes increasingly hot and makes a 16km trek sound very unappealing. Cuc Phuong National Park in Butterflies Season 3. Mua Cave and Lying Dragon Mountain What is the Mua Cave and Lying Dragon Mountain? Meaning ‘Dancing Cave’ in Vietnamese, Mua Cave is said to be the site where King Tran would come to watch musical performances. Like most examples of Vietnamese folklore, there is a lot more speculation and whimsy than actual historical evidence, but it’s a nice story all the same. Mua Cave is more of a name than anything physical, as the main attraction here is the 450 steps of Lying Dragon Mountain, certainly the best place to visit in Ninh Binh for the view. Mua Cave What activities are at Mua Cave and Lying Dragon Mountain? Basically, just climbing up the steps. The ‘cave’ aspect is nothing to write home about, but the 450 disjointed steps that wind up the mountain like a dormant dragon are well worth a climb. They pose a small challenge for most tourists, but the reward of a panoramic view of Tam Coc, Trang An and Ninh Binh from the top outweighs the effort. There is a long dragon statue above the panoramic viewing platform that some people like to climb up to, even though there are no stairs leading up to it. When to visit Mua Cave and Lying Dragon Mountain Located about 6km from the centre of Ninh Binh City, a 15-minute taxi ride can bring you to the foot of Lying Dragon Mountain. Rain can make the stone steps quite slippery, so try to avoid the rainy season between June and the end of August. The best view from the top will be one that features clear skies and golden rice paddies stretching for miles between the mountains; if this is the view you’re after, then head during harvesting season between the end of April and early June. Views from Dragon Mountain 4. Van Long Nature Reserve What is Van Long Nature Reserve? For anyone looking to bag extra travel points by getting off the beaten track, Van Long is for you. Known by locals as the ‘Waterless Bay’, Van Long Nature Reserve is a vast expanse of wetlands and caves with classic Ninh Binh scenery in the background. This is a great alternative to Tam Coc, where foreign tourism is so highly prized; by comparison, you might get a few shocked looks if you turn up at Van Long. Sunrise in Van Long Nature Reserve What activities are at Van Long Nature Reserve? There are plenty of ways to see the full majesty of Van Long but the main one is to jump onto a local rowing boat and sit back. The leisurely ride will take you down the wide river and through some of the 32 wet caves in the region, letting you glimpse at the magnificent limestone mountains along the way. Animals thrive in the area as there is very little to disrupt their habitats; monkeys and flocks of birds are a common sight. For anyone nervous about using the very basic boats that are available for the ride, you can drive, cycle or walk along the adjacent path that offers similarly stunning views. Rowing Boat in Van Long Nature Reserve When to visit Van Long Nature Reserve There is very little rice here because of the high water level in most areas, so don’t bother holding your visit until the harvest season. As long as you avoid the wet season from June to the end of August, you should have a great time. 5. Phat Diem Cathedral What is Phat Diem Cathedral? Believe it or not, many coastal cities up the length of Vietnam are predominantly Christian, and Ninh Binh Province is famous country-wide for its heavily Christian population. These were the places that foreign missionaries from France and Spain arrived at by sea, spreading the word of Jesus among the locals and inspiring vast cathedrals in his name. Large cathedrals can be seen in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City, but Phat Diem Cathedral in Phat Diem City, which took 24 years to build, is almost definitely the most interesting one. Phat Diem Cathedral What activities are at Phat Diem Cathedral? The blend of traditional European and Vietnamese architecture in Phat Diem has led to one of the most bizarre and amazing cathedrals you will ever see. Phat Diem Cathedral's mixed construction is the main draw here, and a walk around the cathedral and its grounds will enlighten visitors to the largely unfamiliar world of Vietnamese Christianity. Inside, the walls and the ceilings look 100% Vietnamese, but the red lacquer and gold at the altar look like something straight out of St. Paul's Cathedral in London.  When to visit Phat Diem Cathedral The regular Christian holidays draw the biggest crowds at Phat Dien Cathedral, so if you can handle the throngs then this would be a great time to visit the cathedral. For anyone just looking to explore the astonishing architecture, a visit on any day is good. You can take a bus from Ninh Binh city to Phat Diem City for about d25,000 (about $1).
