H'mong villages
Given that a permit is required for entry into Ha Giang, your guide will assist you in obtaining one from the small office in the town. Once secured, your adventure continues with a series of breathtaking passes, winding over rolling mountains and through picturesque valleys. The journey promises stunning vistas of the surrounding landscapes.
A break for lunch awaits you in the charming mountain town of Tam Son. Post-lunch, venture through an impressive pine forest to explore a Hmong palace that belonged to the influential Vuong family. This historical palace, once used to store opium and weapons, provides a fascinating glimpse into the bygone era of Hmong royalty. Following Vietnam's independence in 1950, the palace was evacuated, and the descendants of this influential family now reside in France and Canada.
Continuing off the beaten path, you'll traverse winding roads, discovering hidden black H'mong villages nestled behind stone walls. Your day concludes as you arrive in Dong Van at approximately 18:00. Afterwards, ascend above the town to Pu Lo, a well-preserved French fortress built in 1890. Explore the fortress and take in the incredible panoramic views it offers of the surrounding landscapes. Following this captivating visit, hit the road to embark on one of Vietnam's most spectacular routes. The Ma Pi Leng Pass, situated at an elevation of 2000 meters, hugs the contours of the undulating mountains, providing unparalleled views of the valleys and terraced hemp fields that adorn the mountainsides. Today's itinerary includes a visit to Hoa Lu, the historic capital of Vietnam from 986 to 1010, featuring two temples dedicated to King Dinh and King Le. Gain a deeper understanding of Vietnam's history dating back a thousand years and discover why Hoa Lu was chosen as the capital.
10:45 AM: Departing from Hoa Lu Ancient Capital, we'll board our bus and journey to Hang Mua. Expect a 20-30 minute climb to reach Hang Mua Peak, a challenge well worth the effort for the breathtaking panoramic views. Enjoy a 360-degree vista of the Tam Coc valley, limestone mountains, and the picturesque countryside.
Around 12:30 PM: Indulge in a Vietnamese cuisine lunch at a local restaurant. This is an excellent opportunity for those interested in learning more about Vietnamese food.
1:00 PM: After lunch, embark on a leisurely sampan boat ride in Tam Coc, known as the "3 caves." Often referred to as the dry Halong Bay, Tam Coc boasts the beauty of limestone mountains and meandering rivers. During the rice season, capture endless photo opportunities of nature and the locals working along the riverside.
