Overview

The graceful pelican was our inspiration for the Pelican Cruise, offering security and an elegant passage through the waterways of Halong Bay. Our 3-sail junk boat encompasses an overall ancient theme, matched by its interior of burnished wood cabins, spa and dining room, as well as a magnificent wooden sundeck designed in an antique aesthetic.
While the décor has hints of a long-past oriental nature, the amenities are some of the most modern on the market, and we are particularly proud of our attention to safety with many fire extinguishers and easily readable signs throughout the ship.
Our staff are here to serve you and are specifically trained to do just that in a polite and friendly way. They are always willing to chat with customers and offer a service far beyond the one that we train them for.
Join the Pelican Cruise in beautiful Halong Bay.

After this, head to the dining room for a breakfast of hot beverages and pastries.

08.30 – 19.30 After boarding our comfortable day boat, we will head to the floating enclave of Cua Van, one of the few villages around the Gulf of Tonkin. A villager will show us their way of life via rowboat.

The ancient cave of Me Cung is the next stop. This was one of the earliest residences of humans in Halong Bay and you can see evidence of this, along with a spectacular natural scene, on a walk through the grotto.

"Seeing Halong Bay in Style with the Pelican Cruise"

Pelican Cruise

We had to wait a fair amount of time to get on the boat once we had arrived at the check-in lounge, but once we did, we were in for a great cruise. The first lunch that we got was a very nice meal and everything after that was also fantastic. My mom is a vegetarian and Mr Thanh, the cruise manager, always personally made sure she was taken care of. The level of service on the Pelican Cruise is immense, from Mr Thanh to the waiters. Everyone deserves a lot of credit but I’d like to personally thanks Mr Thanh again for his wonderful care of my whole family, we all think very highly of him after now.As for the excursions, I’d say the cave and the trip to the island were two of the best. My parents are rather elderly so we didn’t end up doing too much other than staying on the boat, but this suited us down to the ground. When it comes to improvements, I just think that it would be a nicer idea to provide a large jug of water for free instead of charging for lots of individual water bottles. Halong Bay does have a plastic waste problem and the amount of bottled water on every single cruise ship doesn’t really bode well for Halong Bay’s environmental wellbeing. Also, though my mom loved the vegetarian food, it was a bit of a scramble to knock something up for her at every meal time. Instead of rushing to throw stuff together, I don’t understand why they don’t just have a vegetarian menu, like how most other restaurants do it. Regardless, I’m highly recommending the Pelican Cruise!

"Free Upgrades and Great Staff – Our Pelican Cruise Experience"

Pelican Cruise

A booking glitch meant that our original booking with the Orchid Cruise went unfulfilled. The same company owns the Pelican Cruise, so they made fantastic amends by apologising and sorting us out with an alternative boat, the Pelican Cruise, and an upgrade to the Royal Suite, the best cabin on the ship. It ended up being a great upgrade. The staff put in such a shift to make sure we were happy and that our once in a lifetime trip wasn’t ruined at all. The cabins were perhaps a touch dated, but the Royal Suite had its own private balcony and a really comfortable bed.We weren’t sure what to expect of what was repeatedly referred to as a ‘day boat’, but when we saw it for the first time, it was certainly a lot bigger than we thought it would be! We had a wonderful 4-course lunch and then began cruising around to some of the quieter areas of the bay. There were 7 passengers and 4 staff, so we were well looked after. We spent much of the day relaxing and kayaking around small coves. A very simple itinerary but a very pleasant one – we couldn’t have been happier with how the second day went.In the meantime, The Pelican Cruise had gone back to pick the new overnight passengers up, so we were fused with their tour. We dined separately from everyone else when we got back, and it was a really nice evening under the stars.I decided to book in for a massage on board, and that was very pleasant. We started both days with Tai Chi, which was an excellent way to begin the day’s proceedings.I would highly recommend the 2 night cruise as you get more time to relax without the rush or the other boats. We were so happy that we got upgraded to the Pelican Cruise! We’d like to thank everyone on board the main boat and the day boat for an utterly fantastic time.

"Excellent Cruising – well done Pelican Cruise!"

Pelican Cruise

Wonderful experience overall on the Pelican Cruise. What a great service we got from the talented staff, all of whom exceeded our expectations and made the cruise something to. We thought very highly of the cabins, which had very comfortable bed and excellent views of the bay through the big windows (they also open up).The food was absolutely amazing and I was bowled over by the presentation at times. How they got all that delicious food out of the kitchen in one go on a repetitive basis was astounding to me. We had an interesting itinerary with lots of stuff to keep us busy, but definitely preferred the second day, with fewer people on the day boat and a more relaxed itinerary. We enjoyed happy hour on the top deck – it was the best way to celebrate a really fantastic day on the bay. One of our unexpected highlights was the tai chi, which neither of us had tried before. We woke up early and were greeted by the tai chi master on the top deck, who taught us how to regulate our breathing and move our bodies. It was such a peaceful start to the day, with the newly risen sun always in sight. Really good cruise, I will be highly recommending it when I get home.

"Awesome Pelican Cruise with an Awesome Crew"

Pelican Cruise

I know lots of people don’t like the cookie cutter type tours that all of the Halong Bay boats do, and I’m not a huge fan of that either, but I feel that the Pelican Cruise are the best ones to go and do this with! They run these cruises daily and have refined the experience to be amazing for everyone.Pro tip: We got a private car from Hanoi which we felt was worth the extra cost to not be crammed on a bus.We had a bit of a wait at the harbour but it was worth it once we got on the Pelican Cruise. We had a great lunch as we set out, with probably enough food to fill us for lunch AND dinner! The food in general throughout the trip was amazing and the drinks were, while not particular cheap, not badly priced in the grand scheme of things. The rooms come with a mini fridge anyway, so it sort of encourages you to bring your own. We really enjoyed the outing to the cave, which we found interesting and fun. The visit to the beach was more naturally beautiful rather than interesting, but it still equals a good time! The staff throughout were perfect. They had a great balance of helpful advise and respectful distance. It was great to talk and joke with them and it was so nice to see a bunch of young people enjoying their jobs and their co-workers’ and guests’ company. Excellent work!

"Great Sailing with the Pelican Cruise for 2 Days"

Pelican Cruise

This trip was done by my friend and I, who were originally looking to book a day trip but were convinced of the positives of the overnight cruise, so we changed to that at the last minute and were very thankful that we did! It’s about 4 hours to Halong Bay so going for a day trip is hard to justify – 8 hours of travel for 4 hours of leisure. The only real glitch was right at the start, when the bus turned up at 7.30, despite telling us that they would be there between 8 and 8.30. We refused to skip breakfast because of this and they got a little bit annoyed, but all was smoothed over and we enjoyed a comfortable ride to the bay.The boat was highly comfortable once we stepped on. I had a couple of worries about all the swaying of the boat during the night but honestly, if it weren’t for the views going outside the window, you wouldn’t notice you were on a boat at all! It was very smooth, much smoother than my night train from Sapa to Hanoi a few nights prior! The windows were large and gave great views, but overall we didn’t spend much time in the rooms, what with the gorgeous top deck available for reclining. All of the food was sublime, with 5 course meals each time. The staff catered for us very well as I don’t eat pork and my friend doesn’t do fish and other seafood. They brought us out some delicious alternatives that were carefully crafted personally to suit our beliefs and allergies. There was loads of stuff to do while on the cruise. We went to Titop Island, which was my favourite spot, as the views from the top (not halfway as some people were doing) are incredible. The cave was interesting and we got some great pictures from the mouth of it. We got very wet during the kayaking but had such a blast trying to figure out which way to paddle that it didn’t matter! We had some weather than I would describe as ‘miserable’ everywhere else, but in beautiful Halong Bay, I would describe it as ‘mystical’ and ‘ethereal’, and it really was. Don’t be put off by a bad forecast as I think Halong Bay finds a way to look beautiful every time, regardless of the weather. We spent so much time sitting on the top deck and just watching the view go past. It was incredibly peaceful and we enjoyed it immensely. Definitely recommend the Pelican Cruise!

"The Pelican Cruise was worth Every Cent"

Pelican Cruise

We booked this cruise via a travel agent and found it to be everything promised and more. There are so many cruise companies offering the same 2 day itineraries, the choice can be a little overwhelming, but we knew that settling on the Pelican Cruise was 100% the right choice. It was a bit cold when we went because it was January, and we had read may reviews talking about mist at this time of year obscuring the views, but we didn’t find that to be the case at all. All of the crew were very welcoming and lovely. They presented me with a surprise piece of fruit art for my birthday and that was very sweet of them! All of the food was outrageously tasty and the room was very comfortable. You can open up the huge windows and get the most amazing view of the bay. Top deck happy hour was a very social time so we met a few other people here, but it was cold so they provided us with blankets. There are some caving and kayaking activities to keep everyone entertained, but some people opted just to chill on the sundeck instead, and I can’t say that I blame them. Wonderful trip, big recommendations!

"Splendid Service on the wonderful Pelican Cruise"

Pelican Cruise

This was a 2 night trip that me, my boyfriend and my parents did as a group of 4. We were mightily impressed by the cabin with its floor-to-ceiling sized window that can be opened onto the bay. Absolutely the best part of being on the cruise was talking to the wonderful staff, who were helpful and amazing company. They brought us some exquisite food which was happily wolfed down by our party. The variety in particular amazed us, and we thought it was a great idea to serve 5 or 6 different dishes than one main meal, as it gave us lots of new foods to look out for when we got back to Hanoi. As per the itinerary, we went to a cave, fishing village and island, all of which went very smoothly due to great organisation. The ship was very clean and luxurious and we loved that there aren’t so many cabins. Despite the fact that we had our own cabins, we spent most of our time on the top deck because of the unparalleled views available from up there. We did a cooking class and took advantage of happy hour up here, but we missed the tai chi class because of copious amounts of alcohol drunk the night before. Halong Bay is stunning and I would highly recommend the services of the Pelican Cruise to go and see it!

"Exquisite Long Trip with Pelican Cruise"

Pelican Cruise

We chose the extended itinerary on the Pelican Cruise as we had some time in Hanoi and wanted to make the most out of Halong Bay for 3 days. The cabin was so comfortable and was much larger than we thought it would be. The food was outstanding and plentiful. We were so glad that we chose the 3 day cruise as we feel like we would have been left wanting after just 1 night in the bay. We enjoyed the stops on the first day for the most part as they went to very beautiful spots, but they were so touristy that it was hard to enjoy it fully. We boarded the day boat the next day with just one other family, and went out to much quieter sites where we had an incredible day just kayaking, swimming and chilling on the boat – nothing like the first day at all, where it feels like they need you to see everything as quick as possible. The staff throughout the 3 days were phenomenal and we were sad to say goodbye – they knew our names essentially from the start, which makes it feel a lot more personal. Really great company – enthusiastically recommending.

"Pelican Cruise 2 day/1 night"

Pelican Cruise

Everything really came together for this brilliant cruise, which me and my husband place very highly in our overall experience list! We had a painless 3.5 hour trip to Halong Bay from our hotel in Hanoi, then boarded the boat and found a roomy cabin which was very clean and had all of the modern comforts we could have possibly wanted. The balcony with chairs were a very good addition and we made sure to make the most of it. I can’t tell if it’s a bias that I have, but I thought that the Pelican Cruise looked newer than a lot of the boats in the bay, and as everyone was doing, was sizing up the qualities of other boats’ top decks to give some inclination as to whether or not we had made the right decision. It’s safe to say that I think we did.The staff were wonderfully attentive and friendly and the food was superb. The little details and variety were what made it special for us. The activities were super fun, especially the cave. Titop island was okay from the bottom but lovely from the top, where you can see a great view. The most beautiful thing we saw was a tie between sunset and sunrise from the top deck of the boat – really incredible. Very very happy with Pelican Cruise overall, it’s a great company and I hope the staff there go far!

"Organised Fun on the Pelican Cruise"

Pelican Cruise

Neither me nor my husband are all that wild about the idea of going on an organised trip, but that was the only option in Halong Bay. We were very impressed overall and we may have to reconsider our stance on organised tours from now on!The first thing to mention was the amazing crew – all very well trained and all naturally caring people – it was a recipe for a really great time. The boat is indeed a little older than the others, but it is very clean and the beds in the cabin are very comfortable, which is really the main thing.Lily was an excellent waitress who accommodated for my vegetarianism fantastically. The food was really outstanding and we were amazed at the quality and presentation, given that we were on a boat and I wasn’t expecting the kitchen to be all that much. You pay extra for the beverages and we were warned of potentially expensive prices, but we actually found them to be fine – more than in Hanoi of course, but still fine for a cruise. The only bit that made us feel like we were on an organised tour was when we went to the beach on Titop Island, which is full of people and made of sand that has been imported in. However, we had a cold beer and just watched the people, so it turned out to be quite interesting. We liked that we could paddle where we wanted during the kayaking. We didn’t do the tai chi or the cave as they were early in the morning and we preferred to sleep and then relax on the sundeck.

"Should Have Booked the Pelican Cruise for Longer"

Pelican Cruise

Was so happy with the service we got on the Pelican Cruise. We booked for 1 night but rued the option of not staying for a second after a really fun first day in the bay. The staff looked after us very well and were super fun to be around the whole time. The room had some great sliding doors that opened up onto the amazing view. Halong Bay is really beautiful and doesn’t deserve the little bit of stigma it gets from pollution and traffic. There were small examples of both of these, but nothing to seriously hamper a good time. The food was next level delicious. The seafood was on point and dinner was big enough to feed a fishing village. It was a generally great atmosphere surrounding the boat and everyone got on very well. We met some nice people and spoke with the staff at night while relaxing on the sun deck. It was an incredibly chilled experience and it’s a shame that we didn’t book it for two nights. C’est la vie. Maybe next time...

"The Pelican Cruise was a Great Experience"

Pelican Cruise

Me and my two parents picked the Pelican Cruise for our time in Halong Bay. The bus broke down on the way to the hotel so it was late by about half an hour. My parents were getting worried that we had been scammed, but we called the company and they were very apologetic, so we relaxed a little. Once the bus turned up, we were ferried to Halong Bay and the real holiday could begin. For there on out, we received an amazing service from the Pelican Cruise and we were very happy that we booked with them in the end. The exquisite food and the quality and kindness of the staff were fantastic. We booked for a triple room but they upgraded us to two doubles instead, so I had my own space. The rooms look a little out of sorts with the more modern ones in Halong Bay, but it was decked out exactly like a hotel room and all of the amenities were the same. We enjoyed the activity-heavy program as we are active people and we really wanted to get the most out of our time there.Cheers for the excellent tour!

"Outstanding Pelican Cruise"

Pelican Cruise

Really couldn’t rank this cruise any higher, it was one of the best things I’ve ever done. I’m very happy I did the 3 day cruise and would encourage everyone to do the same – the one day is nice but you don’t really get a true feel of Halong Bay and activities are a little rushed, the second day is much nicer for this. We had nothing but perfect staff right from the beginning to the end! It’s a clever system that allows for the 3 day tours and 2 two day tours to happen at the same time, with a bit of boat switching. It also means you return back to the boat for the second night to find a completely new bunch of people, so we had fun making friends all over again. On the second day, we did some kayaking around the island, went to a fishing village and did some swimming in the open water. There was lots of chances to soak up the atmosphere of the bay and grab pictures of the gorgeous rock spires. We had a few special dietary requests that we relayed to the staff at the harbour, and they were delivered without fuss. Excellent work by Loi, Lily and the crew, you were all amazing!

"Three Days is the Best – Pelican Cruise Review"

Pelican Cruise

We were spoilt and pampered on this Pelican Cruise through Halong Bay for 3 days and 2 night. The transport was quick, easy and comfortable as we made it to the harbour in about 3.5 hours as opposed to 4 hours like I was expecting. We couldn’t get enough of the food since having that first lunch, and the quality just continued over all of the other courses and even the lunch on the day boat! The staff were really something special – they made the cruise much more enjoyable for us and kept us fed, safe and entertained. Lily and Loi were the two standout members of staff for me, they were always so fun to be around and professional when they needed to be. I would heavily suggest going for the 3 days rather than 2, as the activities on the second day were so much beter than the first. That’s not to say I didn’t like the first day’s activities, but we found that the second day was much less busy, with just 6 people on the day boat, going around locations that were less frequented by other boats. This was the perfect honeymoon for us so we have to thank Pelican Cruise for that! They were excellent throughout!

"On the Pelican Cruise through breathtaking Halong Bay"

Pelican Cruise

Just came back to Hanoi from the 2 day trip to Halong Bay with the Pelican Cruise. We were treated to expert hospitality the whole time between picking up and dropping off the next day. All of the staff were excellent and very friendly with guests without being too intrusive. The cabins were absolutely immaculate and the view out of the large windows was stunning. The food was incredible – cooked fresh on sight and served with very artful presentation. Everything was timed to perfection here, you couldn’t get a Swiss tour guide running more to the clock than the staff of the Pelican Cruise! We stopped at a cave, went to view Halong Bay from the peak of an island, and visited a fishing village as well. It was much more relaxing than I thought it would be at night; I was expecting louder neighbouring boats and more rocking of the ship on the waves, but neither of these things happened. I had a blast on the Pelican Cruise and I highly, highly recommend it.

"Flying High on the Pelican Cruise"

Pelican Cruise

It was an excellent time we just had on the Pelican Cruise, who provided excellent service from start to finish. We were driven to Halong Bay, checked in, enjoyed a 2 day cruise and were driven back to Hanoi – all with an overcurrent of professionalism and smiles by all of the staff, who were amazing. The food was very tasty and I probably had more than I was supposed to! The entire boat looked very nice and it was spotless whenever we saw it. The sundeck was well kitted out – enough sun chairs for everyone and a great place to do tai chi in the morning. All of our family loved the cooking class, which was surprisingly funny. We went to some great locations during the 2 days and learnt a lot about them from the guide, who was very knowledgeable about it all. The care of the staff was on full show when my son got stung by a jellyfish, so the manager sprung out of nowhere and treated and comforted him. He was fantastic. Thanks to everyone at Pelican Cruise for such a great time, we won’t forget it!
