 Activities: Arrive in Hanoi. Enjoy the Water Puppet show and cordial welcome dinner.

Your 17 day itinerary in Vietnam starts with your arrival in Hanoi.

Upon arrival at Noi Bai Airport, after collecting your luggage and completing the visa process, you will receive a warm welcome from our local guide. Then we will head straight to the centre of the city (approx. 1 hour). Our guide will happily assist you to check into your hotel (normal check-in time is 14:00, but early check-in may be possible on payment of a supplementary charge and depending on room availability).

In the afternoon, our tour guide will pick you up from your hotel at around 16.00 and take you on the short walk to the Water Puppet Theatre where you can enjoy the special water puppet show. This is one of Vietnam’s unique traditional arts dating back to the 11th century. After the show, we will drive to a local restaurant where you can enjoy a welcome dinner prepared by Incredible Asia Journeys. Return to your hotel and stay overnight in Hanoi.

 Activities: Full day city tour including the Ho Chi Minh Complex, One Pillar Pagoda, Temple of Literature, Ethnology Museum. Enjoy a cyclo-tour around the Old Quarter of Hanoi.

Start your Hanoi City Tour by visiting the must-see attractions in Hanoi City Tour. We will visit the Ho Chi Minh Complex including the Ho Chi Minh Mausoleum (closed on Mondays and Fridays and every afternoon), Ba Dinh Square, Ho Chi Minh's House on Stilts and the One Pillar Pagoda with its unique architecture and beautiful garden. After that, we will move on to Temple of Literature – considered to be the first university in Vietnam, a symbol of Confucian Education in Vietnam. Nowadays, it is a holy place where students worship and pray for good luck before their examinations or before graduating. 

You will have lunch in the KOTO restaurant (Know One, Teach One) – the hospitality training restaurant for disadvantaged children. 

After lunch, you will have a chance to visit one of the most popular museums in Hanoi.  The Ethnology Museum provides excellent background on the 54 ethnic groups living in Vietnam today. You will have a chance to learn more about the varied architecture and culture of these different groups.

Continuing our tour, we will return to the Old Quarter and spend about an hour on a cyclo-tour (by rickshaw) exploring the most interesting of the 36 streets that have a history spanning over 2000 years and still remaining vibrant today.  Activities: Transfer from Hanoi to Hoa Binh visiting the local villages and stay overnight in a homestay in a traditional house on stilts.

Day 3 of your 17 day itinerary in Vietnam will be the tour to mountainous area of Mai Chau.

We will take a day trip from Hanoi to Mai Chau for 4-hour trip. Located about 130 kilometres to the west of Hanoi, Mai Chau is a beautiful place of emerald-green rice fields surrounded by houses on stilts. You will have a chance to enjoy the splendid scenery and meet local people to learn more about the exotic cultures of Vietnam’s hill tribes. Along the way, we will stop for a break at the Thung Khe pass where you can meet the local people selling boiled corn and mountain specialities. You may take time to talk with them and taste some nice sticky corn for sale in the small local shops on the roadside. 

Upon arrival at Mai Chau, you will have lunch provided in the Thai House on stilts. After lunch, you will have time to wander around the village and our driver will then take us to the remote village of Mai Hich. Take a cycle tour around the village (or walk) and see how local people engage in daily activities like watering their vegetables, rice growing or traditional weaving. Return to your homestay and enjoy a cozy dinner with our friendly Thai hosts, followed by a fascinating overnight stay in a house on stilts. 

The homestay will be special for you to learn more about the local life and that will be a special experience in your 17 day itinerary in Vietnam.

 Activities: Enjoy a trekking tour to visit various remote traditional villages in Pu Luong.

After a morning at leisure, we will say goodbye to our hosts in Mai Hich village and transfer to Pu Luong Nature Reserve. Leave the car and on a trekking to Don Village (of about 2 hours) discover these remote villages in Pu Luong. Pu Luong is less commercial and less of a tourist destination than Mai Chau. The local people here are very friendly and you will have an opportunity to understand something of the hardships of local life. You will have a chance to see the beautiful landscape with stunning terraced paddy fields, magnificent mountain ranges and delightful waterfalls.

We will visit several local villages before ending your trekking to Pu Luong and have lunch in one of them. After lunch, we will check into our homestay. In the afternoon, you will be free to explore the surrounding area with its beautiful terraced fields, have dinner in the local style and meet the White Thai people in order to gain a deeper understanding of their lives. Today you may help your hosts to cook the dinner or learn some dishes from them. Your host may invite you to sample the local rice vodka, just raise your glass in the local style but you can choose whether or not to drink it, it is not an issue.  Activities: Continue trekking around the rural villages in Pu Luong. Transfer to Ninh Binh province for a boat trip in the Van Long Nature Reserve.

Start the day with breakfast prepared by our friendly hosts and you can then continue trekking around the rural villages. Or just relax at the homestay and discover the daily morning life of the village as people start a new day. You may see the students on their way to school or local people setting out for the farm. We will transfer to Ninh Binh province by the Ho Chi Minh road and have lunch on route.

Heading to Van Long Nature Reserve for the hand-rowed boat, you will have an opportunity to enjoy the spectacular mountain scenery covering over 3000 hectares with 32 beautiful grottoes. Van Long nature reserve is ideal for those who love nature, wetlands and cultural heritage. Van Long is where the famous King Kong movie (Skull Island premiered in 2017) was filmed. Finish your boat trip in Van Long you will go to the Ninh Binh City for hotel check-in and stay overnight there.

 Activities: Transfer to Halong Bay and enjoy the various activities the bay has to offer.

Halong Bay no need an introduction as it is very famous in the world. That will be one of the most highlighted sites in your 17 day itinerary in Vietnam.

Check out from the hotel and be ready at the hotel lobby at around 7:30 AM. Today we will take the transfer to Quang Ninh province for our Halong Bay 2 Night Cruise.

Along the way, you will pass through various Northern Vietnamese villages and towns. The 4-hour journey from Ninh Binh to Halong Bay will be a good opportunity to see other regions of Vietnam with a variety of scenery, as you pass through different provinces where the people undertake different types of work moving from farming regions to areas where fishing provides the main source of livelihood. We will take a short break at the halfway stage.

Upon arrival at Tuan Chau Harbour, check in for the cruise. After a briefing with some general information about the trip, lunch will be served on board. During lunch, you will see the stunning scenery with thousands of Limestone Mountains and islands. After a short rest, get ready to join the various on-board activities (subject to each boat’s itinerary). You will visit the Amazing cave (one of the most magnificent and largest grottoes in Halong Bay) then relax at Titop beach with a swim or climb to the top of Titop Mountain for stunning views and photo opportunities. Return to the ship and enjoy an ice-cold happy hour cocktail on the sundeck. A delicious dinner will be served on board. You will begin the second day of your  Halong Bay 2 Night Cruise by having breakfast, then get ready to switch to the day boat for a cruise to the remote area. Have lunch on the day boat and continue to explore the beauties of Halong Bay before heading back to our big cruise ship.  Activities: Overnight on the cruise ship then transfer directly to the airport for the flight to Hue city.

Start the day with Tai-chi, the healthy morning exercise taken by locals that is believed to lead to a long healthy life and positive attitude. After breakfast take a kayak to Hang Luon (Luon cave) - a majestic tunnel cave not accessible to the large boats. It promises to be an unforgettable experience. Return to our cruise ship, check out and have lunch before disembarking. Fishing your Halong Bay overnight cruise, you will then take you directly to Noi Bai Airport to catch a flight to Hue.

Upon arrival in Hue, you will be met by our friendly tour guide and driver – look out for the signboard - and we will head straight to the hotel in Hue to check in. Free evening and overnight stay in Hue.

 Activities: Enjoy a boat trip on the river. Explore the Thien Mu Pagoda, Tu Duc Tomb, Imperial City and the Citadel.

8.30 AM: You will be picked up by your private tour guide for the Hue City Tour after breakfast and go to Toa Kham Boat Station. Enjoy a cup of coffee/tea during the 45-minute trip on a dragon boat on the beautiful Perfume River and start to explore Hue’s principal destinations. As one of the oldest and prettiest religious pagodas in the country, Thien Mu Pagoda is the perfect place to find peace and enjoy the stunning river and pine forest scenery. After that, we will go on to visit the Tiger Arena Trumpeting Elephant. Our guide will then take you to Tu Duc’s Tomb, one of the most beautiful and famous examples of the royal architecture of the Nguyen dynasty. Next, you will have a chance to visit the traditional incense village and learn how to make your own incense.

Your vegetarian lunch will be provided in Thien Tam restaurant – one of the best restaurants in the city for vegetarian food, while you watch an artist create a beautiful painting in just 5 minutes.  

After lunch, you will continue with a visit to the Imperial City. One of Vietnam’s seven UNESCO World Heritage Sites, the Imperial City has a fascinating museum as well as many historical monuments, imperial tombs and religious pagodas and temples with magnificent architecture from the Nguyen dynasty. Our Hue City Tour ends and you will go back to your hotel for an overnight in Hue.

 Activities: Journey by private car from Hue to Hoi An over the Hai Van pass – the longest pass in the central region.

Check out from the hotel after breakfast and say goodbye to Hue City. The 4-hour drive including a short break midway will take you from Hue to the ancient town of Hoi An. You will see the coastline along Eastern Sea and enjoy the breath-taking scenery of the Hai Van Pass (Ocean Clouds Pass). Stop on route to take photos at the quaint fishing village of Lang Co Beach.

We will then continue to Hoi An ancient city and check into your hotel. The afternoon is free for you to relax, swim in the hotel pool or walk to the beach in Hoi An to enjoy the view or swim after the journey. Explore the ancient town by yourself, sample the local food or shop at the night market. Overnight stay in Hoi An.

Hoi An is a charming town for you to discover. Your Vietnam 17 Day itinerary will be not perfect without a day trip in Hoi An to Tra Que village. 

Take a 30-minute ride by bicycle to the local Tra Que Farming Village. You will have the opportunity to visit the vegetable garden and help the farmers to prepare the soil and fertilize it with seaweed. You will gain a deeper insight into market garden activities such as sowing, watering and picking vegetables, etc. Rest briefly after work on the farm and enjoy a footbath before having lunch with a local family.

Tra Que Farming Village will be one of the most interesting experiences ever. You will have a chance to meet the local people and they will teach you how to cook delicious Vietnamese cuisine. Your lunch today will include spring rolls, Banh Xeo (Xeo Cake) or local pancake from the central region of Vietnam.

These narrow tunnels are only wide enough for a single person and lead to the meeting room, sleeping quarters, hospitals and storage facilities. Go down into the tunnels to learn more about the harsh conditions endured by the Vietnamese fighters who lived there. 

Returning to Ho Chi Minh City centre, you will have lunch in a local restaurant and in the afternoon to visit the Reunification Palace and War Remnants Museum. Prepare for a colourful morning on route from Ho Chi Minh City to My Tho – the capital of Tien Giang province (the name means Front River) and explore the Mekong Delta. Another name for the Mekong Delta is Song Cuu Long (Nine Dragons) because it divides into nine channels before it reaches the sea. Discover daily life on the river, such as fishing and fish farming or fruit growing, by taking a motor boat trip to Dragon Island.
